HAK roadside assistance: 1987 from Croatia (free, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year); from abroad +385 1 1987 or +385 1 4693 700. Serves domestic and foreign drivers on public roads in Croatia, including tourists in transit. Procedure: hazard lights, vest, triangle at least 100 m behind the car, then call.

Call your club or insurer yourself first (ADAC +49 89 22 22 22, HAK 1987); helpers who appear uninvited may be fake.
Lock the car, step away to call, and let nobody touch it until the club confirms by phone.
Do not trust a claim that your club will pay.
If you must use an unknown operator, agree the company, destination and total price first.
Ask for a detailed invoice and pay only under protest.
If pressured or threatened, call 112 or the police; photograph car and plate only if safe.
Keep invoice, proof of payment and papers: only you, as the victim, can file a fraud report.
